Serie A Week 12 Wrapup



4-1 JUVENTUS FC v GENOA (Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino)

Juventus pipped out Genoa by 4-1 on Friday at Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino to climb thrid spot in the Serie A table. In the 6th minute full back Grygera opened the score when he cut in from the right wing and fired his shot into the far post and 20 mninutes later Amauri scored second for Juve when Grygera provided the ball. Vincenzo Iaquinta added a third in the 85th minute before Diego Milito reduced the deficit with a penalty two minutes from time. But Sokratis Papastathopoulos gifted Juventus the fourth goal in stoppage time and higher confidence to travel to San Siro to face table leaders Inter Milan. This match played bit early on Friday bcoz this stadium had been booked out for international rugby match between Italy and Argentina.

0-2 US PALERMO v INTER MILAN (Renzo Barbera Stadium)

Second half brace from Sweden international Zlatan Ibrahimovic put Inter back into the top of the table by beating Palermo by 2-0 at Renzo Barbera. Zlatan took just 25 seconds to net the goal at the start of the interval and he struck the ball even better in the 62nd minute to earn all three points with a powerful set-piece. Somehow Palermo upheld the Inter thru out the first half with no real dangerous games from either side. Now Palermo are with four defeat in their last seven games and this is Inters seventh unbeaten game in Serie A.

3-1 ATALANTA v NAPOLI (Atleti Azzurri d'Italia)

All the four goals in this match were scored in the second half and in the space of 38 minutes when Atalanta beat Napoli by 3-1 at Atleti Azzurri d'Italia. Hosts went ahead in the 62nd minute when Ferreira Pinto strike. In the 66th minute Napoli lost Marcelo Zalayeta picked up his second yellow and sent-off from the match. But Napoli men conjure a way back into the game in the 73rd minute penalty from Marek Hamsik. But late goals from Thomas Manfredini and Sergio Floccari ended 10-man Napoli's brave resistance and handed Atalanta three vital points in Bergamo. Napoli fought hard in the first half but Atalant's second half pressure turned into their favour.

1-0 CAGLIARI v AC FIORENTINA (Sant Elia Stadia)

Only goal from Robert Aquafresca thru penalty is enough for hosts to defeat Fiorentina. And Fiorentia were left in mad when they wasted a number of chances. After the first hald lead Cagliari displayed the finest art of defence by stopping visitors. Cagliari coach Massimiliano Allegri handed an unexpected start to Andrea Lazzari ahead of Andrea Cossu with the idea of keeping Fiorentina midfielder Felipe Melo in check.

3-2 CATANIA CALCIO v TORINO (Angelo Massimino Stadia)

Giuseppe Mascara fired a superb hat-trick to give Catania victory in an entertaining clash with Torino at the Stadio Angelo Massimino. Ricardo Colombo gave the surprise lead to Torino in the 6th minute but that lead couldnt sustained for a couple of minutes also when Masacara canceled their lead. The 29-year-old then put the home side in front after 39 minutes only for Torino to draw level shortly after the break through Nicola Amoruso's penalty. It was the local hero in the 80th minute when he completed his hattrick and before this game is heading towards draw.

1-0 AC MILAN v CHIEVO VERONA (San Siro)

In the 15th minute Kaka took controversial penalty to beat Chievo by 1-0 at San Siro. But this is the well-deserved win for red-and-black stripe side. This defeat led Chievo to their fifth defeat on the trot leaves them propping up. Injury-ravaged Milan, meanwhile, continue to keep up the pressure on leaders Inter Milan and are still just a point behind their neighbours. Milan's evergreen and living legends Alessandro Nesta and Andrea Pirlo have been joined on the sidelines by Massimo Ambrosini and Paolo Maldini while Marco Borriello, Luca Antonini and Gianluca Zambrotta were ruled out late on.

3-2 UC SAMPDORIA v US LECCE (Luigi Ferraris)

This is the action packed match where Sampdoria pulled themseleves from the lower reaches of Serie A to beat Lecce by 3-2 at Luigi Ferraris. In the first 14 minutes goal from Gennaro Delvecchio and Antonio Cassano set Sampdoria on their way to win, Simone Tiribocchi pulled one back in the 55th minute to put the pressure on Samp, who reacted with a strike from Marius Stankevicius five minutes later. Tiribocchi grabbed a second eight minutes from the end, but Samp held on for a win which lifts them above their opponents and clear of the bottom three. The win moves them up to 14th, five points above the relegation zone. They are one place and one point better off than Lecce.

1-1 AC SIENA v BOLOGNA FC (Artemio Franchi)

Emmanuele Calaio missed the penaly in the 77th minute who denied the much needed win for Siena. But still left unbeaten at home this season when they leveled 1-1 against lowly Bologna at artemio Franchi. Hosts took the lead when Abdelkader Ghezzal headed them into the lead following Daniele Galloppa's 22nd-minute set-piece. Marco Di Vaio got a rare goal for an away when he slid home a penalty in first-half injury time. Now Bologna's new coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has led his side to the back to back draws. Both sides made just one change each with Siena boss Marco Giampaolo drafting in Cosmin Moti for suspended central defender Luca Rossettini, while Sergio Volpi replaced Davide Carrus for the visitors. Before this match Ghezzal position had been in the form of question mark who had scored a goal in his 10 matches of this season.


0-1 UDINESE CALCIO v REGGINA CALCIO (Stadio Friuli)

Franco Brienza struck a stunner for Reggina to beat Udinese by 1-0 at Stadio Friuli. Now Reggina recorded their first away win of the season and second of the season and lifted themselves from lower reaches of Serie A table. And Udinese tasted their first home defeat of this season. Before this match Udinese dumped Reggina out of the Coppa Italia on penalties. Francesco Cozza floated a lovely cross over to Brienza who showed brilliant technique to crash home a volley from just inside the area, although questions have to be asked about the Udinese defence who had left him unmarked.


1-0 AS ROMA v SS LAZIO (Stadio Olimpico)

In Rome derby its 50th minute goal from Julio Baptista who gave a much needed win for Roma to beat their home rivals by 1-0 at shared stadium Stadio Olimpico. Baptista rewared Roma with powerful header from Francesco Totti cross. This is their first win in Serie A since September 28. Lazio suffered a blow in the 67th minute after Christian Ledesma was handed his marching orders following a double booking. Roma also ended the game down to 10 men after Simone Perrotta was sent off three minutes from time.

Inter Milan = 27 pts from 12 games

AC Milan = 26 points from 12 games

Juventus = 24 points from 12 games
