Liverpool : Whom To Keep In & Out...

As Rafa Benitez looks to continue to trim his squad and build up reserves for potential new signings, here is a look at three who have done enough to continue their Liverpool careers and three who should be sold to the highest bidder!

Xabi Alonso (valued at £16m and wanted by Arsenal) – Having seen a move to Juventus fall through Rafa Benitez may have to re-evaluate his thoughts on the Spanish international. Xabi seems keen to stick it out at Anfield and prove his worth. Most Liverpool fans feel he is a great talent, as do I, and that he is a better bet than Gareth Barry, again I concur with the Reds faithful on that score. So what now? Hopefully Rafa will keep the intelligent midfielder and if he does seek to clinch the deal for the Aston Villa man hopefully the cash can come from elsewhere.

Yossi Benayoun (valued at £7m and wanted by Roma, Manchester City and West Ham) – The Israeli international was pretty decent in his first season at the club. Weighing with goals and inventive play, he was more than happy to be used sparingly but got more of a run in the team once the Premier League became less important and players were rested from league action. Yossi has stated he wants to remain at Liverpool even though he could get regular first team football somewhere else he clearly loves the club and wants to continue to be an important part of the squad.

Steve Finnan (valued at £3m and wanted by Aston Villa) – Has been a great bargain for the club since his 3.5m signing five years ago. The Irishman doesn’t appear to keen to be part of the deal that takes Gareth Barry to Merseyside and he can’t really be blamed for that. Whilst clearly coming towards the end of his career the 32 year old is still solid and managed to get over 30 starts last term so clearly he still has what it takes to feature in the coming season albeit clearly as cover and not first choice with Arbeloa and new signing Degen also in the right back mix.

Whilst the three players above have proved their case to remain at the club the following trio should be sold for whatever Benitez can get for them!

This trio includes Andrei Voronin, Jermain Pennant and Charles Itandje who’s combined sales could bring in around £8-£10m which could be very handy for the club. What do Liverpool fans think of these two sets of players? Who should they keep and who should they offload swiftly?
